Study Trips

Travel and accommodation arrangements are made in advance by the study trip co-ordinator. Approximate budgets and programmes are available several weeks before the study trip. The costs vary, averaging from 100 euro (within Poland) up to a maximum of 350 euro (elsewhere) including travel, accommodation and basic living expenses. A student’s budget is taken into account when planning each trip.

The programme of the study trips combines education with tourism and entertainment. It often includes a visit to the local university where seminars about regional and pan-European topics are held. Discussion focuses on historical, political, economic, social and cultural issues in the local and the larger European context. Meetings with local or international NGO representatives are organised for students to allow them deeper insight into Europe and to allow students to gain contact with local experts in the field.

We organise guided city tours and always allow a bit of free time to visit museums and galleries. In the evenings, students explore the nightlife, usually with the assistance of local student hosts.

Study trip destinations are chosen by the study trip co-ordinator in advance of the academic year. Destinations are selected to bring the students into contact with current ‘hot’ topic areas relevant to European identity, politics, economics, sociology, security, history and culture, preferably those that also relate to the Central European context of the programme. We try to find destinations that we can offer greater access to (and more insight into) than individual students might get when travelling on their own. We also try to make each year’s selection of study trips unique, including new destinations that CES has not travelled to as a group.
