Q: Is your degree a "regular" Jagiellonian University MA degree or some other sort of certificate or licence? Is it accredited?
A: Our MA degrees are regular academic degrees given by the Jagiellonian University and the Polish Ministry of Education and officially recognised all over the world. In most countries, however, potential employers and other Universities are fairly free to assess foreign credentials independently (or outsource that assessment to private agencies), in addition to the official recognition or accreditation status of a degree. Therefore, official recognition of the Polish Ministry cannot be considered to be a guarantee that your degree will be valued highly by a particular employer or University.

Q: Do I need to speak Polish to attend your course?
A: No prior knowledge of Polish is necessary to attend our MA programmes. All lectures and seminars are conducted in English.
Language abilities are very important to study at the Centre for European Studies. Some fieldwork may require Polish or other foreign language ability. All students must complete two semesters of languages study, usually in the courses in Polish or other languages provided at CES.

Q: I'd like to participate in your study abroad programme but my home university doesn't have any relationship with the Jagiellonian University. What do I do?
A: From our point of view, you can apply as an individual. Our courses are marked on the European Union standard and (from a technical point of view) are transferable anywhere in the world. From a practical point of view, however, we recommend that your academic advisor and/or a representative of your school's registrar contact us first to make sure that things go smoothly.

Q: Can I attend the your courses as part of an Erasmus exchange?
A: Erasmus students may make exchanges with the Polish language programmes in European Studies. For more information about Erasmus exchanges, please contact
Dr Stanisław Górka at our Przegorzaly campus office.
Generally speaking, Erasmus students may participate in CES classes where there is space available after the degree candidates have made their selection. Erasmus exchange students are not considered to be degree candidates at the Jagiellonian University.

Q: Can I attend only one semester of the MA programme?
A: Yes, but you won't be eligible for the MA diploma. Individual courses can be charged separately. Please make sure that you make your intentions clear to the Centre staff at least two months before your intended start at the Centre.

Q: Does the tuition cover room and board? How much money should I bring with me?
A: The tuition does not cover room or board. The exact cost of your stay in Krakow is largely up to you. We will be happy to help you find lodgings appropriate to your budget. We have a limited number of cheap (currently 300 zl. per month, doubles and triples only) rooms in the halls of residence on reserve. Many students choose to live together in groups of two or three students in private flats where a typical cost per person might be around 800-1000zl. per month, including utilities. You could be frugal and eat only in the school canteens or you could go wild in the many restaurants of Krakow. Less than 4000 euro set aside for the costs of life will result in a spartan lifestyle. Most students find 7000 euro allows a comfortable lifestyle.
