About

Dr. Edyta Gawron is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Jewish Studies, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and the head of the new Centre for the Study of the History and Culture of Krakow Jews (Jagiellonian University). She received both MA and PhD from the Jagiellonian University, Institute of History. Dr. Gawron is the alumna of the Postdoctoral Research Scholarship at International Institute for Holocaust Research, Yad Vashem (2006/2007) and the International Visitor Leadership Program by US Department of State (WWII History and City Museums. A Project for Poland; 2008). As a specialist in the 20th century history of Polish Jews, Holocaust studies and post-Holocaust Jewish Diaspora she cooperates with various academic institutions and museums in Poland and abroad.

Dr. Gawron is a member of the Commission on the History and the Culture of the Jews of Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is the president of the Board of Directors of Galicia Jewish Heritage Institute Foundation and the academic advisor for Galicia Jewish Museum in Kraków.Since 2007 she has participated in the works of the core team designing the new museum in the former Schindler's Factory in Krakow (branch of Historical Museum of the City of Krakow).Currently she works on the project on Polish Jews' migrations after the Holocaust (1945-1948), and coordinates research projects on the history of Krakow Jews in the 20th century.
